Holliston Massachusetts Information

Located in Middlesex County, the town of Holliston, Massachusetts was founded in 1724. The community was named after Thomas Hollis, an Englishman who was also a benefactor of Harvard College. Holliston’s Mudville neighbor-hood claims to be the location of the 1888 Ernest Lawrence Thayer poem, “Casey at the Bat.”

Holliston in 2009 had a population of 14,193 within an area of 18.9 square miles; it has a small town feel while still within the metropolitan Boston area. Located just inside Route 495 it is a convenient commute to many employment centers.

Holliston has managed to retain the semi-rural feel of a quaint old New England town. Route 16 is lined with many stately historic homes and buildings. There are eleven area parks, including Stoddard Park on Lake Winthrop, as well as the Pinecrest Golf Club.
